Former Logan Players Attract National Attention

National preseason college basketball magazines are hitting the newsstands and former John A. Logan players Jalen Perry and Jaiveon Eaves are gaining national attention!

Perry who now plays for the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) is one of three players with a color picture on the regional cover of Lindy's Sports College Basketball.  Perry played at Logan from 2015 to 2017 and averaged 19.5 points per game as a sophomore.  Last season at UAB he averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.  He is expected to be one of the top returning players in Conference USA.

Within the magazine, it picks Eaves as one of the top 40 junior college transfers into the NCAA Division 1.  He will play at Murray State this season after averaging 16.1 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Vols last season. He is expected to be an impact player in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Coach Kyle Smithpeters was also named as one of the top 50 junior college coaches in the nation according to "Basketball Times". He has a record of 139-54 in his six seasons at Logan.  Last season the Volunteers were 26-6 and ranked as high as 14th nationally.

"It is always good to see our players gain national recognition," Smithpeters said.  "We prepare them to be successful at the next level and they take advantage of the opportunity. The national attention is great for our program."
