Fans can get a pre-season look at the John A. Logan basketball team when Logan hosts the fourth annual Midwest Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 20. There will be 16 teams at the SIU Recreation Center including five Top 25 teams from last year; Logan, Vincennes, Indian Hills, Olney Central, and Wabash Valley. Over 30 players in last year's Jamboree went on to sign with Division I teams.
Three games in the Jamboree will help Logan prepare for a very challenging schedule.
Last season Logan was 27-5 and ranked fifth nationally against the schedule ranked 10th toughest in the nation. Coach Kyle Smithpeters has toughened the schedule even more. "We want to play a challenging schedule to make us better as a team," he said. "While making the schedule tougher we will have more home games so our fans can see us play more."
The Vols will open the regular season with two games at Indian Hills CC in Iowa. Logan will play Otero of Colorado on Nov. 1 and will play a very talented Indian Hills team on Nov. 2. Indian Hills has a home record of 77-6 over the last four years and has made six straight national tournament appearances.
The first home game will be Nov. 6 against a new opponent, Southwest Tennessee CC. There will be a 6 p.m. tipoff. All other home games will be at 3 p.m. or 7 p.m. The 3 p.m. starts will be on Saturday games while all other games will begin at 7 p.m.
Other non-conference opponents will include Columbia State of Tennessee, Kankakee, Motlow State and home and away games with Three Rivers.
Logan will host the defending national champions from Vincennes on Nov. 26. The teams meet again at Vincennes on Feb. 1.
"Our league is very good and hopefully the non-conference games will get us ready," Smithpeters said. "We play each league team twice. At least seven games will be against pre-season ranked opponents."
Season tickets are on sale at the Logan Athletic Office.
